Over 50 years ago, we were looking to buy our first house in Ceres.
After having no luck in finding a house, my late father-in-law, a joiner with a lifetime of experience, suggested that the cheapest option was to build from scratch (under his supervision). Two and a half years later, we moved into our traditional, newly-built house in Ceres. I have worked in the building trade covering all aspects of the trade. From extending our property, helping family, neighbours and friends, all while serving in the Fire Service for 34 years.
Three years before retiring from the service, during a discussion with one of my brothers about what I should do in retirement, he said, "do what you have always done, but do it as a business".
